How to use AI tools for SEO and content creation

Using AI tools for SEO saves time, but only when you know which tasks the tools handle well and which still need your judgement. This guide covers the five most useful ways to use AI in your SEO workflow, with real prompts you can adapt.

AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude are good at language tasks: rewriting, summarising, organising and explaining. They are not search engines themselves and they do not know what keywords your customers actually use. That distinction matters. Use AI to speed up the work your research tells you to do, not to replace the research.

1. Cluster and group your keywords

After you pull your keyword list from Google Search Console, the Victory Digital free SEO report, or a tool like Ahrefs, paste the list into ChatGPT and ask it to group the terms by search intent or topic. A prompt like "Group these keywords into informational, commercial and transactional buckets and suggest a page topic for each group" works well. Check the groupings against what you know about your business. AI will sometimes put a term in the wrong bucket because it does not know your market.

2. Draft meta titles and descriptions

Give the AI the page topic, your target keyword and a brief description of what the page covers. Ask for three options at 55 to 60 characters for the title and three options at 150 to 160 characters for the description. The AI will produce usable drafts, but you still need to read every one for accuracy and brand voice. Never paste AI-generated meta data straight in without checking that it describes what the page actually says.

3. Outline a blog post or guide

AI is strong at producing a structured outline from a topic. Tell it the primary keyword, the search intent and the audience, and ask for an H2 and H3 structure with a short bullet point under each heading of what to cover. The outline will save you the blank-page stare, but the real expertise, examples and brand data have to come from you. Victory Digital's writers always add verified case figures like the Home Instead +251% organic increase or the TrustATrader +400% result into the outlines the AI produces.

4. Generate FAQ schema

If your page answers several common questions, write the questions and answers yourself, then paste them into the AI and ask for JSON-LD output in the FAQPage schema format. Check every answer character by character against what you wrote. Google compares the schema text against the visible page text, and a mismatch means the rich snippet does not show.

5. Check readability and tone

Paste your draft into the AI and ask it to flag sentences longer than 25 words, passive constructions and jargon. Keep your own tone guide handy and do not let the AI flatten your voice into generic marketing language. A well-written short sentence beats a polished generic one every time.

Where AI falls short

AI cannot check what is true. It cannot verify a statistic, confirm a price or know if a backlink still works. Every figure, product name and claim in your content needs a human check before it goes live. Our free SEO report covers the on-page checks that AI cannot do, including whether your pages are actually indexed and how they perform in search results: https://victory.digital/run-a-seo-report

Metrona, our in-house AI-visibility tracker, measures how often your brand appears in ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI engines. That is a different job from the AI writing tools described above, but it completes the picture: you create content that AI engines can cite, and you check whether they actually do. The tools are useful. Your judgement makes them effective.
