How long does SEO take to show results?
SEO typically takes three to six months to show meaningful results, with the strongest gains arriving from month six onwards. That is an honest range, not a sales line. If an agency promises you the top of Google in two weeks, walk away.
Why SEO takes time
Google has to crawl your pages, index them, and then build enough trust to rank them against established competitors. None of that happens overnight. A brand new domain starts with no track record, and Google moves cautiously with sites it has not seen before. Even an existing site needs time for Google to re-crawl changed pages and reassess them.
The work itself has a sequence too. In the first month or two the focus is on audits, technical fixes and content foundations, which lay the groundwork but rarely move rankings on their own. Visibility usually starts to shift around the three-month mark, and the compounding effects of content and links arrive from month six onwards.
What the timeline looks like in practice
Month one to two: a technical audit, fixing crawl errors, keyword research and content planning. Few ranking changes yet, and that is normal.
Month three to four: early movement on less competitive terms. Impressions grow, and clicks follow more slowly.
Month five to six: pages begin to rank for more valuable terms. This is where most businesses first see a meaningful lift.
Month six onwards: the compounding phase. Each piece of content and each link builds on the last, and rankings become harder for competitors to dislodge.
What makes it faster or slower
Competition is the biggest variable. A new site in a crowded national market will take longer than a niche business with little rivalry. Site age and history matter as well, along with the quality of the content and the number of quality links pointing at your pages. Your budget also shapes the pace, because it sets how many hours of expert work go in each month. Fifteen hours a month moves a site slower than seventy-five.
Our SEO packages run for three, three, six and six months, and those terms exist for a reason. The shorter packages suit businesses testing the water, while the longer ones reflect the reality that the best results land after half a year of consistent work. Pricing is published rather than quoted behind closed doors, from GBP 980 per month for 15 hours up to GBP 3,920 per month for 75.
The results we can point to
We measure what we deliver, so the claims come with numbers. Our work for Home Instead grew organic traffic by 251% and Google Ads conversions by 3,446%. TrustATrader saw a 400% increase over the course of its programme. Those outcomes took months of consistent optimisation, which is exactly the point: SEO rewards patience and sustained effort, not quick fixes.
How to set your own expectations
A useful rule of thumb is to judge an SEO programme over six months, not six weeks. Ask what the agency expects to move in the first quarter, what the targets are at month six, and how progress is reported. You should be able to see your own numbers rather than promises. Our clients track progress through the client dashboard, and anyone can start with a free SEO report to see where the gaps are.
