How to market a care home: a practical guide

Cai 3 min readContent Marketing

Marketing a care home is a long game with a short-term pressure behind it: beds must stay full, but the families who fill them are making one of the most important decisions of their lives. That combination changes how you should market. Families do not impulse-buy care. They search locally, read reviews, compare homes and often visit several before choosing. Your marketing needs to meet them at each stage, from the first Google search to the welcome visit.

This guide covers the channels that matter most for care homes: local search, your Google Business Profile, content, paid advertising and reputation management. It reflects the work we do with care sector clients such as Home Instead, where organic enquiries grew 251% and paid conversions grew 3,446%.

Most families begin with a search like "care homes near me" or "residential care in [town]". Our own Search Console data shows the scale of that demand: queries in the care home marketing family (care home seo, care home marketing agency, care home marketing strategies) generate around 5,500 impressions on victory.digital alone every six months, with almost no clicks because no dedicated guide exists to capture them. For a care home, showing up on page one for your town and your care types is the difference between a full home and a waiting list problem.

The fundamentals are the same as any local business: a fast, mobile-friendly website; clear pages for each service (residential, nursing, dementia, respite); and consistent name, address and phone details across every directory and citation.

Claim and optimise your Google Business Profile

The Google Business Profile is the single most valuable free asset for a care home. It is how you appear in the local map results and the knowledge panel when families search for care in your area. Complete every section, add photos of your home, keep opening hours and contact details accurate and post regular updates.

Reviews matter more in care than in almost any other sector, because families are trusting you with a relative. Ask satisfied families for reviews, respond to every one and take criticism seriously. A thoughtful reply to a difficult review does more for trust than deleting it or ignoring it.

Create content that answers real questions

Families research for weeks before they contact a home. Content that answers their questions directly, whether it is about fees, CQC ratings, activities, visiting hours or how settling-in works, builds trust long before the phone rings. Each genuinely useful page is also a page that can rank, and ranking pages bring enquiries without ongoing ad spend.

This is the content marketing model: publish what families actually search for, organise it clearly and guide them toward a visit. It compounds. For our care sector client Home Instead, organic enquiries grew 251% after a sustained content and SEO programme.

Use paid ads to fill beds when you need speed

Content and SEO take months to build. Google Ads fills beds now. A targeted campaign on searches like "care home [town]" or "residential care near me" puts you in front of families who are actively looking, and you control the budget week by week. Pair ads with a landing page that answers the fee question early, because that is the question every family asks first.

Reputation is the asset

A care home's reputation is its balance sheet. Monitor Google reviews, social mentions and CQC feedback, respond quickly and keep the story consistent everywhere. When families compare three homes, the one that looks credible wins.

Measure what matters

Every channel in this guide should be measured against enquiries and visits, not likes. Our clients track rankings, visibility and enquiry sources in the client dashboard at https://victory.digital/client-dashboard, and the free SEO report at https://victory.digital/run-a-seo-report shows which searches your website currently serves.
