What is motion graphics and how can your business use them?

Cai 3 min readAnimation & Design

Motion graphics is animation with a purpose. Instead of telling a story with characters or a narrative arc (the kind you see in a Pixar film), motion graphics moves design elements โ€” text, icons, shapes, charts, logos โ€” to explain an idea, sell a product or hold attention on screen.

Think of the animated text in an explainer video, the looping visual on a landing page hero section, or the kinetic typography in a social media ad. Those are all motion graphics. They combine graphic design with animation to make a message more engaging than a static image can be, without needing a full production crew.

For businesses, motion graphics sits between a static graphic and a live-action video. It costs less than filming, it is faster to produce, and it can communicate complex ideas in 30 to 90 seconds. That is why it has become one of the most-used formats in digital marketing.

The main types of motion graphics

Explainer videos are the most common business use. A 60-second motion graphics explainer walks a viewer through a product, a process or a problem and its solution. The animated visuals keep the viewer watching while the voiceover delivers the message. SaaS companies, care providers and trades businesses all use them because they explain what you do more clearly than text alone.

Animated data visualisations turn numbers into something you can see. Bar charts that build themselves, line graphs that trace growth over time, and maps that show regional data. When embedded in a blog post or social video, animated data earns more engagement than a static chart.

Kinetic typography is text that moves. Words appear, slide, scale and fade in rhythm with the audio. It is used heavily in social media ads and reels because it works without sound and holds the thumb-stopping moment that platforms reward.

Logo animation takes a static logo and gives it a reveal: a spin, a draw-on, a morph from shape to mark. Every new client, rebrand or product launch benefits from an animated logo intro for video content.

Product demos and UI walkthroughs animate the screen to show how an app or dashboard works. Callouts, highlight rings and click-path animations are standard in explainers for software and online tools.

How brands use motion graphics across channels

On a website, a short motion graphics loop on the hero section can reduce bounce rate by making the value proposition obvious in seconds. On social media, animated ads and posts consistently outperform static images on reach and engagement across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok. In email marketing, a motion graphics GIF in the header can lift click-through rate above a static hero image. And at trade shows or on a homepage, motion graphics explainers run on loop to tell your story to every new visitor.

Victory Digital's design team produces motion graphics as part of its graphic design service. Every animated asset fits the broader marketing strategy, from brand identity (colour palette, typography, logo animation) through to campaign-specific explainers, social creative and video content.

If you need motion graphics for your website, social media campaigns or explainer video, the design team can scope the right format and length for your message and your platform.
